What to Expect on Our Private Wine and Cheese Tour
The private wine and cheese tour brings together two of Amsterdam’s quietest pleasures, slow tasting and slow walking. You’ll move through the historic heart of the city at an easy pace, stopping for premium Dutch cheeses, carefully chosen European wines, and stories that connect what’s on your plate to what’s around you. The route is short, the stops are unhurried, and the pace is built around enjoying every glass.
We start underground at Gastrovino, a small wine cellar tucked just minutes from Dam Square, with aged Gouda and your first pour. From there you’ll walk past the floating Flower Market and step inside a 17th-century merchant house for young Gouda and a local wine. Continue toward the West-Indisch Huis, the building where Pieter Stuyvesant, the founder of New York, once held court, and end at a historic canalside cafe with a charcuterie board of meats, breads and spreads paired with a final glass. Each stop is small, boutique and family-run, the kind of places you wouldn’t easily find on your own. Along the way, your guide weaves in stories of Dutch trade, the Golden Age, and how a small country in the north became one of the world’s great cheesemakers.

Is there enough food for a meal? +
Yes, the wine and cheese tour is enough food for a meal. For most guests, the wine, cheese and charcuterie add up to a relaxed lunch or early dinner, so you won't need to plan another meal right after.
How much wine is included? +
The wine and cheese tour includes 4+ pairings with generous pours at each stop. There's enough wine to feel it, though the pace and walking between stops keep things comfortable rather than overwhelming.
Can children join in? +
The wine and cheese tour is designed for adults (18+) because of the wine pairings. We can adapt it for families or non-drinkers on request, please let us know when booking.
Do you accommodate vegetarian or gluten-light diets? +
Yes, the wine and cheese tour accommodates vegetarian and gluten-light diets. Let us know in advance and we'll prepare suitable cheeses, breads and spreads. Most dietary preferences can be accommodated with notice.
What are some possible add-ons? +
We can add a ferry ride and wine tasting at Chateau Amsterdam at the end of this tour. It's an urban winery across the IJ. We can build a custom finish for your group there.
What happens if it rains? +
The tour runs rain or shine, this is Amsterdam after all. Most tastings are indoors, some are outdoors, and your guide adjusts the walking between them when it pours. Bring a rain jacket and you will be fine.
Can I cancel or move my booking? +
Cancel up to 24 hours before the wine and cheese tour starts and you get a full refund. Want another date or time? Email or WhatsApp us and we move the booking if a guide is free.
Can you pick us up at our hotel? +
A walking pickup from a central Amsterdam hotel is possible on request for the private wine and cheese tour. Otherwise we meet at Gastrovino, Spuistraat 330, about an 8 minute walk from Dam Square and 5 minutes from Rokin metro.
Do I need cash on the tour? +
No. The 4+ wine and cheese pairings and the charcuterie board are included in the price and paid in advance, so there is nothing to pay at any stop. A tip for your guide is optional, cash or PayPal.
What should I wear? +
Comfortable shoes: the wine and cheese tour is a short 1.5 km / 0.9 miles walk that starts below ground in a canal-house wine cellar and moves between a few tasting rooms. Bring a light rain jacket for the stretches outside.
