Why book the food tour private?

Same 10 Tastes route, same stroopwafels warm from the iron, same 400-year-old brown bars. The difference is everything in between: the guide is yours, the pace is yours, and the stories bend to who's standing in front of them.

Grandparents who like to sit down? We sit down. Kids who won't touch herring? The guide finds them something they will. Celebrating something? Tell us, we like an excuse.

"We decided last minute to do a private tour, so it was just 4 of us. That was a great decision. Maria tailored the experience to what we wanted to do. [...] 3+ hours flew by."
Escape, TripAdvisor

Solo traveler? A private tour for 1 is €420. Company outing? Team building tours run from 8 to 200 people. In port for the day? We do shore excursions with cruise ship pickup too.

How fast can you book?

Sometimes same-day. We answer WhatsApp quickly, and if a guide is free, you're on. One family put it better than we could:

"our original tour plans fell through- amazingly we were able to book a private tour for the same afternoon via their WhatsApp- they were super responsive and they were even able to meet us at our hotel with an extra stroller. Maria was very gracious and patient with our kids"
Coastal, TripAdvisor
"Tried a range of aged Gouda - delicious. [...] Stroopwafels at Hans Egstorf - the smell of cinnamon, clove and caramel had us upon walking into this beautiful shop. [...] Learned about Brown Pubs, hidden gardens and even found a hidden church! [...] No need for lunch today!!"
Sharonb, TripAdvisor

What will you actually taste?

The same 10+ tastings guests rave about on the public tour: aged Gouda in the Gastrovino cellar, warm stroopwafels from a 200-year-old bakery, fresh North Sea herring at the fishmonger, Dutch pralines, poffertjes in butter, and apple pie with a jenever or a glass of wine in a Jordaan brown bar. On a private tour we can swap stops around your tastes, more cheese, less fish, all sweet, you decide.

The full stop-by-stop route is on the 10 Tastes of Amsterdam page.

How booking works

  1. 1

Pick a date on the booking page, or message us on WhatsApp if it's short notice.

  2. 2

Tell us about your group: dietary needs, kids, occasions, pace. We plan the stops around it.

  3. 3

Your guide meets you at the start point (often your hotel lobby, if you ask) and the eating begins.

Half our reviews name the guide. Joeri, Kees, Dennis, Maria. On a private tour you get one of them all to yourself, and by the second stop it feels less like a tour and more like a friend showing you their city.

Good to know

Private food tour questions, answered

How much does a private food tour in Amsterdam cost? +

Our private 10 Tastes of Amsterdam food tour starts at €420 per group, including VAT. A group of 2 pays €460, a group of 4 pays €550, and a group of 10 pays €930. That covers your own guide for 3.5 hours, 10+ tastings and drinks. Larger groups up to 30 are possible, ask us for the exact price.

What is the difference between the private and the public tour? +

The route and the food are the same. The difference is that it's just your group and your guide, at your pace. We can shift the start time, linger where you're having fun, skip what you don't care about, and work around wheelchairs, strollers, picky kids or dietary needs.

Can you handle dietary restrictions on a private tour? +

A private tour is the easiest place for us to do it. Tell us when you book, and we plan the stops around vegetarian, pescatarian, gluten-free and most allergies. Earlier start times give us the most flexibility.

Can we book last minute? +

Often, yes. Guests have booked a private tour for the same afternoon over WhatsApp. Message us at +31 6 23028032 and we'll tell you straight away what's possible.

Where does the private tour start? +

Usually at Gastrovino, Spuistraat 330, in the city center. For private groups we can often arrange a different meeting point, like your hotel lobby. Ask when you book.

Is a private food tour good for families with kids? +

Yes, it's our most-booked option for families. The guide adjusts stories, stops and snacks to your crew, and there are non-alcoholic drinks for the young ones. One parent's verdict, in their own words: 'my 11 year old gave it 10 out of 10'.

How big can a private group be? +

Up to 30 guests on a walking tour with one guide per group of 10 to 12. For company outings of 8 to 200 people, see our team building page, that's a dedicated setup with multiple guides.

Rather join a group? The public 10 Tastes of Amsterdam runs daily at €79 per person. Want something fully custom, bikes or a boat? See all private tours or the custom private tour.

Ready when you are
